This should be a bit of an interesting topic.

One thing i must say is, the article is basically all U.S. and stuff, but what about in the other parts of the world, like in Asia (minus Japan). Like Singapore, for example. Not all of SG is infested with anime fans, so i guess it’s around the same size as U.S. fans. One of the main reasons i dislike buying anime / manga from the U.S. licensees and publishers is because of the pricing and i guess, the way the publish it (for the manga), and the voicing and stuff (for the anime).

To me, the prices they sell their stuff for… Are seriously overpriced. I agree that translating takes time and money and hard work, but comparing the prices of the U.S. anime to others, i think i would chose the others option. Why the need to get English voice actors? If you’re a hardcore anime fan, i don’t see what’s wrong with listening to in it Japanese right? Why the Americanzation? Besides, fansubs are in Japanese too. So i say, take out the English voicings and lower the prices of the anime and i might just buy it.

As for the manga, i’d like it more if they published it exactly like how it’s published in Japan. A book format, left – to – right (not that it isn’t l – t – r now), those removable color covers (like how it’s done in SG), and with all the suffix (VizMedia take note!), most importantly too – the color pages. SG manga have color pages (like Negima), but U.S. companies just take away all the colors in the manga… Sucks eh. Now the prices for manga for me is like… 10 CDN. While i used to buy it for 5 CDN.

What a rip off. The anime prices are around 30 USD / CDN for 4 episodes. :\ It’s no wonder people prefer fansubs to originals.
